PLAYROOM

Caroline Kopp designed this space in Pleasantville, NY to function as a playroom for her client’s two small boys. It was originally an awkward basement area with no seating. The client spent a lot of time in the room with her sons, dog and friends and it needed to be a place that functioned for family life and that also looked fun and inviting.

Color is the defining element in this room, with blues in the carpeting, sofa and shelves acting as a calmer backdrop to bold pops of orange and greens in the comfy chair, throw pillows, ottoman and accessories. The mix of hues is so masterful that even the bright toys add to the color story. Kopp added an artistic flair to the space and personally painted two Mark Rothko-inspired paintings. The client loves how Kopp’s “Rothko’s” and the colorful, sculptural vases along the top of the bookcase create such a bold, graphic backdrop.

This project was very rewarding for all involved, as the client and designer enjoyed a wonderfully creative rapport — Kopp credits the success of the design to that relationship.

LIVING ROOM

Caroline Kopp designed this space in Pleasantville, NY to function as a living room for her client’s young family. It was originally dated brown and beige space and needed more seating. The client spent a lot of time in the room with her sons, dog and friends and it needed to be a place that functioned for family life and that also looked fun and inviting.

Clean modern forms are the defining element in this room, with a sleek sectional and Milo Baughman inspired chairs combined with minimalist white cabinetry.  The brightly colored ikat patterned rug was the inspiration for the palette which includes pink, yellow, and blue. Kopp cleaned up the focal fireplace wall with a grey and white faux finish and a large round nickel framed mirror over the mantel.  This project was very rewarding for all involved, as the client and designer enjoyed a wonderfully creative rapport — Kopp credits the success of the design to that relationship.
